Acura Car Key Replacement: Every Key Type We Cover
Acura has used several generations of key technology across its lineup, and the type of key your vehicle requires is one of the biggest factors in what your service involves. Older Acura Integra models from the 1990s and early 2000s used traditional metal cut keys — straightforward to duplicate but still requiring the correct blank and cut pattern. From the mid-2000s onward, Acura moved to transponder keys: a standard-looking key with a small chip embedded in the head that must be electronically programmed to match your vehicle's immobilizer system. If the chip isn't programmed correctly, the engine simply won't start, even with a perfectly cut key blade. Our technicians carry the diagnostic and programming equipment to handle transponder coding on-site for Acura TL, TSX, MDX, RDX, ILX, and TLX models.
Later Acura vehicles — particularly newer MDX, RDX, and TLX trims — use key fobs with remote functions (lock, unlock, trunk release, panic) and, on many recent models, proximity-based smart keys that allow push-button starting without removing the fob from your pocket. These smart keys require both precise cutting and multi-step electronic pairing to the vehicle. Losing the only smart key is especially stressful because dealers often require the car to be towed in and may have multi-day lead times for parts. We stock a broad range of Acura-compatible shells and aftermarket key blanks and can complete most smart key replacements on the spot, right where your car is parked — in a parking lot off Route 537, your driveway in Manalapan Township, or anywhere else in the Freehold area.
